Dr Justine Gatt is a cognitive neuroscientist based at the Brain Dynamics Centre since 2005.
Justine currently holds an ARC postdoctoral fellowship in genetics and emotional brain health, and is the Study Coordinator for the TWIN-E Research Program.
Justine's research aims to understand the predictors of risk and resilience for mental health and wellbeing based on a large prospective cohort of 1500 adult twins. By incorporating an integrative approach, her research aims to identify the pathways that link genetic variants with environment, brain function and behavior, in the prediction of mental health and wellbeing. Ultimately, she hopes to identify the neurogenetic predictors of resilience and wellbeing, as well as effective intervention strategies that optimize mental health and prevent the onset of mental illness in the general population.
Justine's research outcomes to date include over 32 publications, including a sole-author book, peer-reviewed papers and conference abstracts. Most of these publications are in leading international journals, including Molecular Psychiatry and Biological Psychiatry. Justine has presented her findings in many national and international conferences including Human Brain Mapping, Biological Psychiatry Australia and the Australasian Society for Psychiatric Research.
Justine's research outcomes have been recognised by several prizes and awards:
- the ARC-Linkage Postdoctoral Fellowship (2008-2011)
- the Westmead Millennium Institute (WMI) Science Prize (2009 and 2010)
- the Australian Twins Registry Travel Award (2008), and
- the Human Brain Mapping Young Investigator award (2006).
