For my PhD, I have developed an integrative neuroscience theoretical model of Anorexia Nervosa (AN) where AN is considered a disorder of emotion functioning involving pathways from genetic disposition to brain function to behaviour. Hypotheses derived from this model have been empirically investigated through the collection and integration of data across genetic (polymorphisms), brain function (‘Event Related Potentials’) and behavioral/symptom measures of emotional function in the same individuals with AN when first admitted to hospital (i.e., when underweight and malnourished) and after hospital discharge (i.e., after refeeding and weight gain). This information has been compared with data obtained from a healthy matched control participant sample.
