Anthony Harris Profile

About Me

Anthony Harris has been working at BDC since its inception.  He graduated from the University of Sydney in Medicine in 1985 and completed training in Psychiatry in Australia in 1991 and after working in Britain and Germany, returned to Australia to head the inpatient unit at the Nepean Hospital in Western Sydney. In 1996 he returned to a joint clinical - research position. He finished his PhD in the area of psychophysiology in first episode psychosis in 2003 after developing a research project that enrolled 104 young people with their first episode of psychosis from across Western Sydney. Results from this project were published in the American Journal of Psychiatry, Biological Psychiatry and the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry amongst other journals.  Since then he has developed research interests in cognitive remediation in schizophrenia, gamma synchrony and other aspects of psychophysiology in schizophrenia and major depression and medical education.  He has coathored 60 articles and 3 book chapters. At present he is the co-chair of the Neuroscience and Mental Health theme at the University of Sydney and is on the management committee of the Schizophrenia Fellowship of New South Wales.
