The Brain Dynamics Centre Guidelines for Collaborators, Postgraduate Student and Postdoctoral Fellows
The the Brain Dynamics Centre encourages research collaboration with both scientific and industry organizations. We believe that targeted collaborations have the potential to facilitate research outcomes of the highest international quality. Currently, the Brain Dynamics Centre has collaborations with both Australian and international research groups, which includes the Universities of Adelaide, Melbourne (Brain Sciences Institute), Auckland (Liggins Institute), London (Institute of Psychiatry), Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, California (LONI) and Moscow. The the Brain Dynamics Centre focuses on collaborations in which there is an exchange of complementary expertise. As a the Brain Dynamics Centre collaborator, the researcher and institution may benefit from:
- A significant academic input from the the Brain Dynamics Centre researchers involved and/or current collaborators and affiliates
- Access to relevant the Brain Dynamics Centre datasets and analysis software
- Collaborative research outcomes (including authorship on peer-reviewed scientific publications and joint applications for competitive research funding)
- Scientific exchange visits
Scientific Collaborations
The Brain Dynamics Centre has 2 types of research collaborator:
- Collaborators on specific projects - including visiting scientists
- Researchers that are members of affiliated centres
Procedures for application to collaborate
Project collaboration
For individuals or groups interested in collaborating with the the Brain Dynamics Centre, the following are required:
- This is to include a 1-page project proposal summary structured as follows:
Project Title
Aim
Hypotheses
Research Plan/Methodology
Analysis
Significance
*the project focus must be on a research topic that complements the directions of the centre and the research paradigms to be used must be concurrent with the ones used at the centre
- Information on project funding and research personnel to be involved
- Ethics approval for the project
- The CV of the chief investigator
The Brain Dynamics Centre could assist in establishing scientific collaboration for projects submitted by potential collaborators by:
Contributing to development of the project proposal
Contributing to collaborative applications for project funding
Research affiliation
Formal affiliation with the Brain Dynamics Centre will usually develop out of previous or current project collaboration with the Brain Dynamics Centre. To apply:
- Please send a written application that outlines
- the rationale for affiliation with the Brain Dynamics Centre,
- the proposed level of affiliation,
- the nature of the collaborative projects (as per project collaboration)
A Memorandum of Understanding that outlines the nature of the affiliation will be arranged between the the Brain Dynamics Centre and the affiliates.
the Brain Dynamics Centre Membership
Formal membership of the Brain Dynamics Centre will usually arise from either:
- Previous or current affiliation with the Brain Dynamics Centre or the the Brain Dynamics Centre
&/or
- Employment within the the Brain Dynamics Centre or the Brain Dynamics Centre (see http://www.brain-dynamics.net/braindynamics/employment.jsp )
&/or
- Undertaking a postgraduate or post-doctoral research within the Brain Dynamics Centre
PhD, Masters and Honours students
To be a Postgraduate member of the Brain Dynamics Centre, the following criteria are required:
- Enrolment in a department of an affiliated university (inc Medicine, Psychological Medicine, Psychology, Physics)
- The focus of the research topic complements the directions of the center
- A the Brain Dynamics Centre member is available to supervise the research
- Appropriate resources and funding are available
Most Australian residents apply for government scholarships (awarded on merit). International students are able to apply for international scholarships offered by Australian universities - in addition to the options offered by their home country. Postdoctoral fellows
To apply for post-doctoral research within the the Brain Dynamics Centre, please send application to the Director, including:
- Current CV
- A written proposal stating research focus (this may be developed through correspondence with the Brain Dynamics Centre personnel)
- Information on funding
